Ballooning can occur when the Cleveland Hose Load is deployed on a fire stair landing that only has a railing. This makes it possible for the hose to ‘balloon’ out over the edge of the landing.

This itself isn’t a problem because the hose will continue around and form another loop on the main body of the landing.

However once the coils are ballooned out over the edge of a landing it is now possible for the departing coil of hose to fall slightly lower and snag the entire bundle.

If you see this happening simply stop and manage the hose to avoid the snag developing into a tangle.
