Different to the Attack Pack, the Lay Pack isn’t deployed on the spot. It is designed to lay hose as the distance between the water supply and the fire is covered. We have three general concepts with the Lay Pack:

  1. On the fly – laid as the fire fighter walks
  2. Large Flake – deployed into larger, less-likely-to-kink flakes
  3. Dropped – as the name suggests, the hose end is secured and the Lay Pack is dropped over a balcony down to someone who can connect it to a water supply

The first and second are the two main techniques you’ll apply in bread and butter fire fighting.

To lay hose on the fly:

  1. Open one end
  2. Ensure the end is secured to something
  3. Carrying the bag like a briefcase, simply walk allowing the hose to pay out
