The Gantt chart is a horizontal bar chart displayed against the backdrop of a timeline the demonstrates a period of time. The Gantt chart is named for its inventor – Henry Gantt.

The Gantt chart is unique among the view options in Ninox in that it not only displays records in the current table but it displays them in the context of time and relative to each other on the timeline. This backdrop and relativity enables users to understand the cadence/sequence of events and the dependance of one event on another. This is particularly useful for records that represent tasks, actions and/or instructions that appear in a project management or workflow management table. A Gantt chart is demonstrated in the image that appears below.

In a Ninox Gantt Chart, each record is represented as a bar on the chart with the time units of measure (years, months, weeks, days) displayed across the top of the chart as the legend. The point at which a bar begins (on the left) is defined by the first Date Field that appears in the view while the point at which a bar ends (on the right) is defined by the second Date Field that appears in the view. The textual content that appears to the right of each bar is defined according to the other fields that appear in the view. It is important to note that the duration of an activity is represented by the width of the bar with narrower bars representing events that have a duration shorter than those represented by a wider bar.

It is also important to note that bars that overlap (when the chart is viewed vertically from top to bottom) are events that run concurrently while events with no overlap run sequentially. If the user chooses to have the fields included in the view displayed to the left of the Gantt Chart, clicking on any one of those fields will result in that record of the table being presented in Form View.
