All members of the Representative Council must meet these minimum qualifications to serve.

Diocesan Representative Council Members:

  • Holding an active “Diocesan Membership” in NCCL. Though the diocese itself may hold a membership, the individual will need to have activated their individual diocesan membership.
  • Serving in a professional position on the diocesan level.
  • Professional Member of the NCCL. See requirements below.
  • Elected by their represented province through an official process, documented in the “provided form.”

Parish Representative Council Members:

  • Holding an active Individual Membership in NCCL.
  • Serving in a professional position on the parish level.
  • Professional Member of the NCCL. See requirements below.
  • Elected by their represented province through an official process, documented in the “provided form

Partner Organizations:

  • Approved seat by the Board of Directors.
  • Active partnering initiatives with the NCCL.

Requirements for Professional Membership in NCCL:
Requirement One:
Exercise catechetical leadership at national, diocese/eparchial, or parish, or academic level;
OR, author of catechetical materials;
OR, bear catechetical responsibilities in the publishing community.

Requirement Two:
Have graduate degree in catechesis, religious studies, or a related field;
OR, have received an appointment to a diocesan/eparchial catechetical position by an appropriate ecclesiastical authority
OR, have been professionally certified by NCCL as a PCL;
OR, have successfully completed a diocesan/eparchial or university catechetical formation process based on the National Certification Standards for Lay Ecclesial Ministers, including the specific standards for Parish Catechetical Leaders or Youth Ministers.  (This includes processes accredited by the USCCB Committee on Certification and Accreditation or other processes approved by NCCL.)
