Beginning in version 24.3, Orchid Recorder supports automatic updates on Debian-based Linux systems (such as Ubuntu), for selected license types only. Using this feature helps to ensure that your system is always up-to-date (without adding another task to your to-do list).
There are a few different settings available to configure the automatic updates. To edit these, you may use either of the following methods:
- You can use the Advanced Settings feature in the software (which is described in the Orchid Recorder Administrator Guide).
- You can modify the Orchid Recorder properties file (as described below).
- Open the Orchid Recorder properties file. (If you need help, refer back to the How to Edit a Configuration File section that corresponds to your operating system.)
- Work with the package.config_mode property to enable or disable automatic updates. Applicable settings include the following:
- default: Will enable automatic updates, instructing the system to perform repository configuration and lock/unlock ipc-orchid packages based on license status. This is the default setting.
- full-management: Will enable not only the ipc-orchid updates, but will configure any other unattended updates. (WARNING: This option is system-wide and may include automatically installing and updating other packages not directly related to ipc-orchid. Do not use this setting unless you want Orchid Recorder to manage unattended upgrades for the entire system.)
- disabled: Will disable the package management feature.
If you enable automatic updates, there are several other settings to consider.
- Add the package.license_check_interval property to determine how often the system will check the license status. Each time the license status is checked, the system will determine if the ipc-orchid package needs to either be locked (from automatic upgrades), or unlocked for an automatic upgrade. The maximum setting allowed is 3600 seconds (which is also the default).
- Add the package.repo.channel property to set the repository channel from which ipc-orchid package updates will be downloaded. If this value is not set, the system will default to the platform’s production channel (such as systemd-production, etc).
- Add the package.repo.url property to define the URL for the repository server. This server is responsible for hosting ipc-orchid packages. If this value is not supplied, the system will default to a platform specific URL hosted by IPConfigure, Inc.

- Save and close the file.
- After you update the Orchid Recorder properties file, you must restart the Orchid Recorder services. (If you need extra help, refer back to the How to Manage the Orchid Recorder Services section that corresponds to the operating system you are using.)
- Once the restart is complete, you may return to Orchid Recorder.
