Publishing allows users to make objects available to end-users that only have Read Published permission. This guide explains how to publish objects, along with rules and limitations.
How to Publish an Object
- Navigate to the Details page of a draft object.
- Draft objects show an orange icon, and the Publish button is available, if all previously required governance cycles (endorsement, approval, attestation) have been successfully completed.
- Click the Publish button.
- A confirmation window appears where you can:
- Add a comment.
- If no approval cycle was configured, you can choose the version number at this step.
- Click Publish in the confirmation window.
- You will receive a notification confirming successful publishing.
Rules & Limitations
Access & Permissions
To publish an object, you need:
- Access to the Latest database.
- Displayed content must be set to Latest.
- Write permission on the object.
- Authorization to Publish.
→ For more information on permissions, see this topic.
→ For more information on authorizations, see this topic.
Eligibility & Object State
- Can only publish if the object is a draft, has a new version, or has passed an approval/attestation cycle.
- Publishing is blocked if another user is editing the object (lock error appears).
- Flow objects cannot be published; Publish button will be disabled.
Child Objects & Associations
- The publication of an object will be blocked if its parent is not published.
- Publishing a parent object does not automatically publish child objects or associations; they must be published separately.
Comments & Approval Cycle
- If a comment is required and the comment box is empty, you will not be able to publish the object.
- If an Approval cycle exists, the version number is pre-selected; otherwise, it must be chosen at the publishing step.
