Track Changes allows users to see exactly what changed between document versions throughout the entire drafting and approval process.

Instead of manually comparing files or relying on separate comparison tools, EPC automatically tracks:

  • Text changes – insertions, deletions, edits
  • Text formatting changes – font style, size, color, bullet points, etc.
  • Structural changes – tables, bullets, layout updates
  • Rich text formatting updates

Tracked changes remain visible whether users preview the document in EPC, edit it using our Edit in Microsoft 365 feature, or download and re-upload it after local editing.

When the document reaches its final stage (approval or publication), EPC automatically removes all tracked changes and comments. The published version is clean, finalized, and ready for distribution—without requiring manual cleanup.

How Track Changes Works

  1. Edit the Document
    • Use Edit with Microsoft 365 or download the document and edit it locally.

  1. Automatic Track Changes
    • Track Changes is automatically enabled when the Word document is opened. No manual activation is needed.

  1. Sync with MS365 or Reupload the File
    • If using Edit with Microsoft 365, changes sync automatically back to EPC.

  • If edited locally, return to EPC and re-upload the updated file.

  1. Preview Tracked Changes
    • Preview the document to see all tracked changes highlighted.

  1. See Edits by Other Users
    • If another user edits or adds comments, their changes appear in a different color.

  1. Finalize the Document
    • After the final approval or if you publish, the system automatically removes all tracked changes and comments.

  1. View Previous Versions
    • You can preview older tracked changes in the document’s Version History if you need to review past edits.

Managing Track Changes Settings

Track Changes behavior is controlled by the ENABLE_TRACK_CHANGES advanced system setting, which is enabled by default.

System admins can disable this setting if automatic tracking is not desired. For more information, please see this topic.
