In the interest of minimizing classroom distractions, cell phones, iPods, smart watches, air pods, tablets, and other personal electronic devices should remain out of sight in their bookbag and on silent mode, unless specifically approved by the classroom teacher or administration. Devices will be confiscated if used for non-instructional purposes or heard during school hours and sent to the office. Teachers may have students place phones in a cell phone wall hanger or a cell phone container to remove the temptation of using a cell phone.

11th and 12th grade students will be allowed to use their phones during their scheduled lunch. This is an 11th and 12th grade privilege. They will be required to use their phones in an appropriate manner. If at any time a student misuses their cell phone at lunch in an inappropriate way, this privilege will be taken away from the individual.

The progression for discipline in this area is:

  • First offense: The phone will be sent to the office where it will be held until the end of the school day.
  • Second offense: The phone will be kept in the office during school hours for 3 days.
  • Third offense: The phone will be kept in the office during school hours for 7 days.
  • Fourth offense: The phone will be kept in the office during school hours until the end of the current semester.

During tests, quizzes and other assessment activities, all electronic devices (including smart watches) will be in their bookbag and placed in designated areas in the classroom for the entire period. Technology and social media may be incorporated into classroom instruction. Teachers will monitor appropriate use of the media channel throughout the assignment.
