Appearance and Uniforms Presentation is essential, as we work in a highly visible and open environment. Upon commencement of work you will be presented with a uniform set, which you must thereafter ensure is kept clean and well pressed. The uniform must always look professional (i.e. not faded, stained, bear holes or be modified in anyway). Failure to wear the uniform may result in you being sent home. Repeated failure to adhere to the uniform standards may result in disciplinary action. Your appearance should always be neat and tidy. Facial piercings are not permitted. Make up should be natural and conservative. The standard uniform issue consists of:

i) Cap

ii) Shirt

iii) Apron

iv) Name Badge – each bearing the Gino’s logo

v) Masks / Face Visors are provided during Covid-19

vi) Jacket may be issued over the winter periods.

Hair Net: Being in the Food Service Sector, Gino’s will provide hair-nets which must be worn if a team-member’s hair is of such a length that the issued cap is insufficient in providing the required hygiene standards.

Shirts: When wearing the issued Gino’s shirt, at least two of the lower buttons must be buttoned-up. It looks more professional and smarter.

Pants: We wear conservative, solid black full-length trousers (or ‘capri’, i.e. below the knee) pants in the serving area. These must be pattern-free and must be polyester, cotton, polyester/cotton blend or black denim, no ripped or faded jeans. Athletic / ’Track-Suit / legging’ pants are unacceptable.

Shoes: We wear plain black shoes or ‘sneakers’. We are committed to a ‘clean-as-you-go’ policy, so bear in mind that you will sometimes be working on a wet surface whilst mopping and cleaning–sole grip and traction is an important consideration with regards to suitable footwear at work. Open-toed shoes, sandals or high heels are unsuitable due to health and safety protection considerations.

Digital Devices: We do not use mobile phones in the serving area. Headsets, blue-tooth earpieces, portable music players etc. are not allowed during work schedules

Personal Grooming
The food service sector is highly regulated and we are required to subscribe to standards that ensure safe and proper food handling.

Covid 19: In compliance with the Covid-19 protocol, servers and food preparers should wear masks to prevent transmission between co-workers, customers and onto food.

Hair: Must be clean, combed and well-managed. If your hair exceeds collar-length it will need to be restrained by a hair-tie under the cap and hair net.
Gelato Makers: As Gelato Makers are directly exposed to preparing Base and Gelato, they are expected to be more vigilant with regards to foreign body contamination. Gelato Makers should wear a hair net (if they have hair) and a cap to minimise the risk of hair falling into products. If a Gelato Maker has a beard, they should wear a ‘snood’ or a mask covering their beard.

Hygiene: Team members are required to bath/shower daily. Skin, hair, nails, teeth and clothes must be clean. Personal hygiene and grooming not only prevents potential microorganism contamination but is a reassurance to customers that they are being served in a clean, safe environment.
Fingernails: Must be trimmed, clean and filed. No nail varnish or additional/decorative adornments.
Artificial nails should not be worn as this constitutes a hygiene and ‘falling-into-food’ risk.
Jewellery: Jewellery may harbour pathogens that can contaminate food and also pose as a ‘falling-into-food’ risk. No Jewellery should be worn during a shift with the exception of:
•A single plain ring
•A necklace may be worn, but kept within one’s shirt
•No other visible part of the body should bear jewellery or piercings.
Make-Up, Perfume, Cologne, After-shave: Make-Up should be modest/conservative and scents should not be overly strong.
