Small fix to the automatic Next / Previous Topic links:
In non-default languages, the links showed the topic titles of the selected default language.
Now correctly shows the topic titles in the language of the current manual.
Manula Changelog: What's New in the Manula software (Page 13)
Fix: Language of automatic Next / Previous Topic links
Faster image downloads through Amazon Cloudfront
We have been experimenting with Amazon Cloudfront for Manula for a few months already, but today we switched over permanently. As of today, all images in your manuals are delivered through Amazon’s Cloudfront world-wide content delivery network.
This will result in faster downloads of all manual images for your readers. Once an image has been cached by a Cloudfront server near your (or your reader’s) location, it will be served super fast to other users in the same area.
Nothing to do on your end, just enjoy the performance improvements.
Faster Image Manager screen
For some users, those with LOTS of images in their account, the Image Manager was getting slower and slower. The main cause for this was the Image Manager loading the full size original images into the screen.
We have now updated our image storage system to automatically generate and deliver thumbnail versions of your images, so that the Image Manager will open much faster.
Enjoy!
New: Publish “Private Manuals” on your own domain
Until now, our integration system for publishing manuals on your own domain was only working for Public Manuals.
However, as of today, it is now also possible to integrate Private Manuals on your own domain, using password protection to block public access. Currently, this is available for PHP/Apache only.

Separate Google Analytics IDs for each manual
Next to its’ built-in view-tracking system, Manula also lets you track your live manual page views using Google Analytics.
Previously, a Google Analytics ID could only be set at the account level, for tracking all your manuals.
As of today, it is now also possible to set an Analytics ID at the manual level, so that you can track each manual’s stats in a separate Analytics property.
Automatic Next/Previous Topic links for all topics
Manual has allowed you to include “Next Topic” and “Previous Topic” links since the beginning, but they had to be include manually into your topic content. However, we received requests from users who just wanted to always have these links automatically, for all topics in a manual.
Sounds like a great idea, so today we added this option in the Manual Settings screen, on the Customize tab. The option is called “Include links to previous and next topic”.
It is switched ON by default for new accounts and switched OFF for existing accounts (to not interfere with possible manual next/prev links).
The automatic Previous Topic and Next Topic links will appear in their own bar under the topic’s content, right above the feedback area:
Auto-sizing dialogs for Images, Videos and Variables
The dialogs for the Image Manager, Video Manager and Variable Manager now automatically size to fit the height of your browser window.
The effects of this change:
- The dialogs now make better use of your screen estate, showing more images, videos or variable in the list.
- The Manula admin is now more usable on low-res laptop screens (e.g. 1024×768 resolution) where previous the Okay or Save button was not visible.
French user interface texts for french manuals
With help from berardino of UANS International Inc., our live manuals now have a full translation of all interface texts for French manuals.
Better page titles of admin pages
Small update to the manual editor:
Editor pages now have a sensible page title showing the actual topic title of the topic you’re working on. Useful if you have multiple editor pages open in different browser tabs.
Thanks to the guys and gals at AgileBits for suggesting this change!
Support link now also visible with “feedback” switched off
In the Manual Settings screen, you can enter the “URL of your Support Page. This link was show next to the Feedback box, to prevent your readers from using the Topic Comments for support questions.
However, we received requests from users to be able to always show the Support Page link, that is, even with the Feedback box disabled. So we implemented that today:
