A. The regional representative’s regional responsibilities include:

1. offer consultation to ACPE centers in the region to maximize local conformity with ACPE ethics, standards and practices.
2. inform members and programs in the region of particular ethics issues or suggestions for better practice through articles in newsletters and presentations at regional conferences and local gatherings.
3. offer consultation to members in areas of potential conflict/problems. Consultations are advisory only and for the purpose of contributing to a positive and ethical climate in the region.
4. may consult, upon agreement with the PEC Chair, with the parties to a complaint and their support persons to provide clarification of ACPE standards and procedures for addressing allegations of ethics violations. The representative’s consultations are a neutral provision of information, not peer review, support, advocacy, or mediation. There is no right of confidentiality or privilege inherent in a consultation.

B. The regional representative’s responsibility as a PEC member includes:

1. being informed of current best practices for ethical chaplaincy and CPE supervision and bringing this information to the ACPE membership through the educational and informational work of the Commission;.
2. participating at least yearly in training in the ACPE/APC Ethics Collaboration Processes as offered by ACPE/APC;
3. serving on Final Hearing or Appeals Panel of the Collaboration or ACPE as requested by the PEC Chair and Executive Director of the organization managing the particular complaint;
4. serving, if needed, on an Initial Review Panel, as requested by the PEC Chair and Executive Director of the organization managing a particular complaint;
5. serving as needed to adjudicate cross-commission referrals within ACPE.
